This is the initial course for individuals who need to be certified to use a portable nuclear gauge. This certification will allow you to transport and use the nuclear gauge in compliance with the NRC regulations. The licensed organization using this training may need to modify their nuclear license to meet individual state requirements. Additional hands on-training by the licensee holder will be needed prior to operating a nuclear gauge. The course must be completed and a passing score obtained on the final quiz to obtain a certificate of completion.   NOTE: Per the U.S. NRC, NUREG-1566, Volume 1, Rev. 2, Appendix C: "Online training for portable gauge users is acceptable. The online training topics should follow the suggested Course Content shown in Appendix C. Any online training should be supplemented by the practical hands-on training also described under Course Content. The applicant/licensee should demonstrate how it will meet the training described under Course Content and may consider providing a copy of the curricula covered in the course." This course is for individuals transporting or shipping hazardous materials (portable nuclear gauges) this course satisfies US DOT training requirements of 49 CFR 172, subpart H (HAZMAT). Individuals are required to receive training and re-certification every 3 years. The course must be completed and a passing score obtained on the final quiz to obtain a certificate of completion. This course is for individuals who will be performing duties as the Radiation Safety Officer for organizations using portable moisture and density nuclear gauges. This course does not satisfy the required three year Hazmat DOT training needed to maintain the initial gauge training.  To verify if this training is necessary, the licensee must verify the conditions of their material license or state requirements.
