ICC Preferred Provider Continuing Education Course

This course will provide a brief overview of the fundamentals, codes and standards, including the International Building Code (IBC) and American Concrete Institute (ACI) 318, regarding the construction of structural foundations including both shallow and deep foundations.  Topics will include a review of foundation requirements including concrete strength, cover, protection and forms.  Shallow and deep foundations will be covered including reinforcing steel, seismic requirements, and drilled shafts.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the ACI 318 requirements for cast-in-place foundations.
  2. Understand the requirements for concrete strength, cover, placement, protection and forming.
  3. Understand the IBC requirements for shallow foundations.
  4. Understand the IBC requirements for deep foundations including seismic categories.
  5. Identify the different types of deep foundations including micropiles, drilled shafts, precast piles, etc.
