ICC Preferred Provider Continuing Education Course
This course will provide a brief overview of the fundamentals, codes and standards, including the International Building Code (IBC) and American Concrete Institute (ACI) 318, regarding the reinforcing steel used in the construction of structural concrete columns, beams and walls. Topics will include a review of basic reinforcing steel including stirrups, ties, hoops, and spirals.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the ACI 318 requirements for columns, beams and walls.
- Understand the structural fundamentals for beams and columns including torsion.
- Understand the purpose of stirrups in beams.
- Understand the purpose and reinforcing steel requirements of columns in a structure.
- Identify the proper placement of column ties including types, spacing, and sizes.
- Identify and understand the reinforcing requirements for structural walls.
